Zebra iMZ320 technology.
The adoption of Apple products, such as iPhones and iPads, around the globe are changing the way our end users interact with our printers. There is a growing need for our printers, in particular mobile printers, to be able to communicate with Apple products. Apple products are being used in a variety of enterprise applications and in many cases; they are replacing traditional rugged handhelds from companies like Motorola, Intermec and Honeywell. Similar to using a handheld, our end user expects that the Apple and Zebra printers work seamlessly together.
Given the above changes taking place in the environment and a growing demand by our regions, Zebra is moving ahead with a product enhancement to an existing product line. The new, Zebra iMZ220 and iMZ320, will be a part of the successful and highly regarded MZ Series mobile printer line. The Zebra iMZ products provide our end users the ability to communicate with Apple devices via Bluetooth. Apple devices can already communicate to Zebra Mobile printers via WLAN (Wi-Fi). Currently, iMZ will be the only Zebra printer family (across all product lines) that offers this functionality. Not to be forgotten, while the iMZ is being created to meet the ever demanding needs of Apple users, it is also compatible with Android and Microsoft products as well.
Most of the printer requirements between the MZ and the iMZ are not changing. The iMZ is considered an enhancement project. However, in addition to supporting iOS, the iMZ will also be adopting Zebra’s new architecture based on a real time operating system and faster processors. Also, the iMZ family comes with a passive NFC (Near Field Communication) tag, which allows Handheld devices with NFC technology to simply touch the printer to pair via Bluetooth (Print Touch), eliminating steps in the Bluetooth pairing process.
The Zebra iMZ was developed to meet the following objectives:
• Meet the increasing demand to communicate to Apple products via Bluetooth. Increasing demand for mobile printing from Apple iOS devices in enterprise applications, which is why Zebra is implementing this functionality in the MZ series.
• Capture mind and product share in the mobile POS environment. The MZ has always been a player in Mobile POS, but now with the addition of iOS support, plus 802.11n, the iMZ will have the right mix to serve as the printer of choice in this emerging trend.
• Update the product to have a longer life span in the marketplace. Change the current MZ architecture so that the iMZ will have the new Operating System, Link-OS, with the new apps and features.
