For Immediate Release TPI supports the Operational Medicine Institute’s relief mission to Haitian refugees with a patient ID solution, the first critical step in ensuring patient safety. Columbus, OH – TPI (Transition Products Inc) is honored to support the Operational Medicine Institute and their current mission to provide relief to the growing number of Haitian refugees at the Dominican Border with a donation of barcode equipment and supplies. The Operational Medicine Institute at Harvard Medical Faculty deployed Physicians to the border region at the request of the Dominican Government, immediately after the devastating earthquake January 12th. They were asked to be lead agency for the UN Technology Cluster; agencies include UNICEF, the Dominican Ministry of Public Health, World Vision, and Partners in Health. They provided an initial assessment of the needs of Haitian refugees entering the Dominican Republic in the aftermath of the earthquake and identified the need for patient identification to facilitate recordkeeping and information management. TPI expedited the necessary equipment including a Zebra Technologies HC100 Barcode printer to meet these critical needs. TPI technicians were available 24x7 for technical support and usage instructions to OMI and UNICEF personnel who were working at the relief site near the border. Durable bar code wristbands serve as the foundation for preventing errors and enabling immediate, automated access to critical patient information at the point of care. “Providing the tools needed to assist in patient identification was our small way of helping overcome an enormous problem. A barcode printer and colored wristbands provided an easy solution that will improve patient safety and efficiency. More importantly it allows the medical staff to do what they do best, provide the urgent lifesaving care that is needed by so many of the victims,” said Jeff Trotier, Founder and President of TPI.
